Immigration policy news from Canada

The Liberal Government of Canada plans to accept up to 305,000 new immigrants to Canada this year – the highest projected level of immigration in recent decades.

The government provided detailed information on the planning of immigration for 2016. The increase in the number of immigrants is planned primarily through family sponsorship and refugee programs, although more than half of all newcomers are immigrating to various economic programs.

The number of refugees to be admitted in 2016 will be approximately twice as large as 2015. At the same time, the Canadian Minister of Immigration stated that his agency was seeking to speed up the processing of applications for the family-class immigration program (sponsorship), and for all other immigration programs in Canada.
